Established in 2013, Purebread is the premier supplier of organic sourdough bread to Ottawa’s farmers’ markets.

We also produce some rather fine pastries and seasonal specialties.

Purebread is bread at its most elemental.

The very best organic flour – wheat, rye, spelt, barley and ancient grains sourced primarily from Eastern Ontario and Quebec – is mixed with sea salt and water, and naturally leavened with wild yeast. Our loaves have no artificial ingredients or additives, giving our bread the most delicious natural taste.

Creating sourdough bread takes days.

From leaven to loaf, the process is slow and entirely natural. First the sourdough culture is nourished with fresh flour and water, and the mixture is allowed to slowly ferment. That natural leaven is then used to make the dough rise. Rising is a multi-stage process that can take hours. By the time the loaf goes into the oven, it can have been up to three days in the making.
